Day 03 - Weddings in Motion

As I continue on in the crazy blog spree of December, I have asked a number of people that are in the same field as I am - production, but in various areas, to give their input and stories and what they're doing and what they've learned. I've been in business with Geoff and had the chance work closely with him. He's a solid guy and has a great business partner now - his wife. She really is an amazing woman. So take a look at their work and be sure to read through Geoff's post, he's a stand up guy and has some great points here for you:

Hey there Matthew A. Hawkins fans..my name is Geoff Heith and I am the owner along with my wife of Weddings in Motion a Vancouver Wedding Photography and Wedding Videography studio.

Matt asked me to share a little bit about what/why/how we do what we do...and seeing as I like Matt..I said sure!

The What... We film and photograph weddings all over. "So what" you may say...well when we started we decided we would look at those out there doing what we wanted to do, find our own style, not compromise on that, and do it better than those out there already doing it... So as we researched and learned (we're still learning) we found our niche and decided we weren't going to be one of those studios that just wants to get paid to shoot whatever. We wanted clients who wanted us and our style, not our price point...

The Why... We started Weddings in Motion 1. Because we (my wife and myself) wanted to do something together 2. We wanted to make money doing something we knew we would enjoy...and we love weddings! Specifically with the video side of things we looked at what people in our area were doing and saw a need for a more cinematic, professional style of cinematography and felt we could "Bring It" so to speak...

The How... First of all we did tons and tons of research on getting into the wedding biz...I have probably to date watched over 500 wedding video's and looked at over 10000 pictures just to see, feel, and understand what people are doing... We learned...we signed up to various forums, blogs, and education centers online to soak in as much info as we could from experts in our field doing it better than us...we had to do a lot of learning really fast... Finally, working freakin hard...we both work full time jobs on top of doing the weddings, why because we're trying to be responsible. Knowing that starting out is tough and we can't just throw all our proverbial eggs in one basket...and hope for the best...we're working constantly...while making room for regular life...it's a delicate balance...

So things I've learned so far: 1. Don't sell out...find out who you are and don't let money determine what you will do... 2. Learn, learn, and learn again...things are always changing in all facets of work...stay ahead of the curve or you'll always be playing catch up. 3. Work hard...nothing comes easy in life...unless your name is Paris Hilton, for the most part, the rest of us have to try, try and try again... 4. Do what you love, don't settle...yes you may have to work a job you don't like to make ends meet...but let that be a means to find what you love!

Anyway, that's just a little tidbit of info about us and what/why/how we do what we do...I have so much more I could share...but really give me an email if you want to know anything else...at the end of this there are some links to some amazing photographers/videographers/ and some great places to just learn...check em' out if you're interested in getting into this...it's great!
